Lou's Orange Slice Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Butter
  • 2 cup Sugar
  • 4 Eggs
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1/2 cup Buttermilk
  • 3 1/2 cup All Purpose Flour (add Orange rind zest)
  • 4 oz or 1 can Flaked Coconut
  • 1 lb Chopped Dates
  • 1 lb Chopped Orange Slices
  • 2 cup Chopped Pecans
  • 1 cup Fresh Orange Juice
  • 2 cup Powdered Sugar

Instructions

  • With mixer cream butter and sugar until smooth
  • Add eggs one at a time
  • Dissolve soda in buttermilk and add it to cream mixture
  • Place flour in large bowl. Add orange slices, nuts and coconut. Mix well with flour. Add creamed mixture and mix well with hands. Makes very stiff dough
  • Grease a 13 x 9 x 3 inch pan or a very large tube pan
  • Bake at 250 degrees for 2 1/2 to 3 hours
  • Poke holes in cake after done. Mix fresh orange juice and powdered sugar and pour over cake.
  • Let stand in pan 24 hours
